Mary-Ellen O'Sullivan

As a voluntary ESOL teacher, Mary-Ellen considers it her job to love, teach and stimulate her students and is rewarded with the chance to see them blossom and become independent under her tutelage. Her continuing inspiration comes from the students themselves; in her opinion, the teaching, important as it is, is secondary to building the students’ self-worth.

Ted Neville

Ted manages the day-to-day running of the charity shop with extreme conscientiousness, even selling to a textile recycling company clothing unsuitable for the shop. Chatting and joking with his customers, not the least of whom was the late Cardinal Hume, a daily visitor, is what has kept Ted an enthusiastic volunteer for the last 12 years.

Christine Kiely

Christine has been volunteering locally for 52 years and working at the Cardinal Hume charity shop on Horseferry Road since it opened in 1987.  In that time she has seen the shop massively increase its contribution to CHC income; asked the secret to the shop's success and longevity, she said, 'If you're nice to people, they come back.'
