Last week Cardinal Hume’s family generously sponsored a wonderful evening of African Drumming in aid of the Centre.
Long term supporters of the Centre John and Catherine Hickman, who is Cardinal Hume’s niece, brought their family and friends together for an alternative fundraising evening. The event held at St Clements Church, West London, saw over 60 guests arriving to test their musical abilities on African drums.
They were first treated to songs by the very talented Africa Arts Drumming troupe who showed off their skills on the
traditional African instruments. It was soon the turn of the guests, as they were each given a drum to showcase their talents. Guided by lead drummer Cheikh Dio, the Church was soon filled with the unique beats of 60 drums played in unison.
Following their hour on the drums, everyone enjoyed a glass of wine or 2 and a selection of tasty canapés.
This wonderful and unique event raised over £2000 to support the work of the Centre.
A huge thank you to the Hickmans and Gill Whitehouse for organising and sponsoring the event and their continued support and to St Clements Church for providing the venue.
