Volunteers bring Christmas cheer to Cardinal Hume Centre

More than 120 volunteers from companies based in London Victoria and beyond are giving up their time to make this Christmas extra special for those visiting the Cardinal Hume Centre.

Based in the heart of Westminster, the Cardinal Hume Centre – which supports young people and families to overcome poverty and homelessness – has seen an influx of corporate and community volunteers, including those from civil service fast stream, BNP Paribas, Celtic Football Club Foundation, Coca Cola, Essential Living Futures, Grosvenor, Land Sec, London Hostel Association, Intuit, Westminster Abbey and Weightman. Their roles range from donating goods, boxing presents, wrapping gifts, setting up a grotto and decorating the premises ahead of the Centre’s Christmas celebrations which begin later this week.

The Cardinal Hume Centre extends an especially warm welcome to its clients – many of whom are suffering from emotional or financial hardship – during the festive season. Recognising that this can be a difficult time of year for people in need, staff from the Centre will hand out presents to around 450 clients, while more than 200 clients will benefit from food parcels containing some luxury items as well as basic goods. Children can head to our grotto where they’ll meet Santa, while young people living at the Centre will enjoy a trip to a bowling alley in central London. The Centre will also provide a home-cooked meal on Christmas day for young residents who are not able to celebrate with their family and friends.

Patricia Marron, Senior Corporate Partnerships Officer at the Cardinal Hume Centre, said: “We work with some absolutely amazing companies in Victoria and beyond, who do so much to support people at the Centre all year round. At this time of year, this work intensifies. We’ve around 120 volunteers coming through our doors right now, each one helping to make Christmas really special for our clients. Our rooms are packed with good-hearted people giving up their time to assemble gifts, make cards, wrap presents … you name it, they’re doing it! We’re so incredibly grateful to all our corporate partners for their incredible kindness and generosity. They really do help make Christmas at the Centre so special.”

Ben Anderson, Community Manager from corporate partner Land Sec, said: “We’re really proud to support the Cardinal Hume Centre. Having worked with them for the last eight years, we know what an incredible difference they make to the lives of people they support. We wish everyone at the Cardinal Hume Centre a very happy Christmas.”

The Cardinal Hume Centre is hugely grateful for all its volunteers, including its 100+ dedicated, regular supporters who help deliver a wide range of high quality services throughout the year.
