Charity shop wideThe Cardinal Hume Centre is fortunate to have an onsite charity shop in Westminster. As well as raising vital funds for the Centre’s various services, it also provides a source of emergency clothing for our clients and residents, who often need formal clothing for job interviews.

When we reopen, we are always looking for people to help. If you have a couple of a hours a week free, have a think about volunteering to work in store on a regular basis.

People volunteer in the shop for a variety of reasons, whether it’s to gain experience, make new friends, or just give back to the community.

Fernanda got in touch with us to say how her time in the shop helped progress her career:Joanne

“I worked as a volunteer at the Cardinal Hume Centre Charity Shop for one year. I wanted to improve my English, so I could feel confident and ready to get a job in London to enhance my career. In the charity shop I found a friendly environment with kind volunteers and staff who have taught me a lot.

I used to work at least once a week, which was enough to help me grow and feel a more complete person and professional. The experience allowed me to improve my skills and get new ones.

It was definitely a remarkable experience in which I could have the opportunity to realise valuable things about myself and meet incredible people. It is undoubtedly a great way to take the next step to a new life!”
