Come browse for a high quality bargain at our charity shop. Perhaps donate some unwanted goods, or even volunteer your time.
The Cardinal Hume Centre is fortunate to have an onsite charity shop in Westminster. As well as raising vital funds for the Centre’s various services, it also provides a source of emergency clothing for our clients and residents, who often need formal clothing for job interviews.
Thanks to generous donations from the public we have a broad range of products on sale – but we always need more. Second hand books, clothes, glassware, jewellery, board games can all be snapped up. We also have a number of brand new items donated by local businesses.
The shop is open Monday to Friday 10am-4pm. If you need to make a donation outside of these hours please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will arrange for it to be dropped with our hostel staff.
As well as donating stock you can also help the charity shop by volunteering to work in store on a regular basis. People volunteer in the shop for a variety of reasons, whether it’s to gain experience, make new friends, or just give back to the community.
Fernanda got in touch with us to say how her time in the shop helped progress her career:
“I worked as a volunteer at the Cardinal Hume Centre Charity Shop for one year. I wanted to improve my English, so I could feel confident and ready to get a job in London to enhance my career. In the charity shop I found a friendly environment with kind volunteers and staff who have taught me a lot.
I used to work at least once a week, which was enough to help me grow and feel a more complete person and professional. The experience allowed me to improve my skills and get new ones.
It was definitely a remarkable experience in which I could have the opportunity to realise valuable things about myself and meet incredible people. It is undoubtedly a great way to take the next step to a new life!”
