Land Securities

Offer vital step to help people into work.

In mid August Land Securities opened their doors and invited some of the Centre’s clients to join their ‘Work Insight Day’, at their offices on Palace Street.  For many people, experiencing a real working environment  can be an important step in  securing employment…

Employment Officer Richard Breedt along with six clients, joined the Land Securities Team for a tour of 62 Buckingham Gate; an introduction to and the history of Land Securities; a perspective on the different aspects of the business and potential opportunities for clients to work within the industry. This was followed by a Q & A session and finally a visit to Portland House’s viewing platform for a stunning perspective of London.

Employment officer Richard Breedt says:

“Many of the clients we work with will not have been to such prestigious office spaces before and that can be daunting when they go for interviews. Employment days such as these give them the opportunity to  experience  a real workplace, learn about the business, think how to present themselves and network, it also gives this them a much needed confidence boost. It is great preparation to get them ready for work.”

The clients who attended varied in age, experience and career interests, and they all found the session to be very enjoyable and valuable preparation. The visit to 62 Buckingham Gate allowed them to gain first-hand insight into the running and management of a commercial building and they had the chance to ask lots of questions.

This is just one of the many ways Land Securities support the Centre. Philip Barron, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Land Securities is enthusiastic about their partnership with the Centre…

“Our partnership with the Cardinal Hume Centre continues to grow, this is helped by good working relationships between our teams. We collaborate together to help individual clients progress on their journey into employment. We do this by hosting ‘Work Insight Days’ at our offices, individual mentoring and referrals to our community employment programmes.”

It has also had a positive impact on Land Securities staff:

“We have also managed to engage our wider employee base in the partnership by getting people down to the Centre volunteering with the family summer programme and painting the Centre. The Centre Team are really welcoming, listen to the needs of our different teams and organise appropriate fun volunteer days.”

A massive thank you to the team at Land Securities for their ongoing support and commitment. They are now looking to organise possible work placements for those that attended, moving them another step closer to employment and a secure future.

Throughout the year we hold employment days such as these with different corporate partners and Richard recognises how transforming this can be for clients:

“The experience of visiting a workplace was hugely beneficial. It gave clients the opportunity to see how a large business works, to discuss possible job opportunities and consider new and alternative career paths. They came away more motivated than ever to secure work. A huge thanks to the Land Securities team”
