September’s Partner of the Month: Standard Chartered Bank
“I came to the skills workshop at Standard Chartered with Ben. I couldn’t imagine I’d be standing up here giving this speech.”
– Mary, former client of the Cardinal Hume Centre
Last week the SCB UK Women Network welcomed employment officer Ben and eight clients into its head office to hear from staff about their own career paths. They also covered topics such as do’s and don’ts of CV writing, assertiveness and confidence, top tips for job applications and interviews and how to deal with interview rejection. There was even time for a delicious networking lunch.
There was a great atmosphere in the room and you could really see how helpful the experience was for clients working with our employment team.
Employment Officer Ben says:
“Experience like this in invaluable, hearing from staff who are passionate about their work and willing to share their experiences. You could really see the positive impact on those who attended the session. It was such a confidence boost and some even swapped details with staff, so who knows what could happen next”.
Standard Chartered have been supporting the Centre for several years through their regular skills workshops. Mary and another ex clients are forging successful careers at the bank and a further three clients have taken the next step in their careers there.
Ana Joli-Green of Standard Chartered Bank who organises the employment days firmly believes in the company using their skills to support people in the community.
“This year I support the UN Global Goals #4 Quality of Education and that is something that I have been committed to for many years. I believe we all have a story to tell and experiences to share. When we share the obstacles and successes of our career paths, we learn, we teach and we help our community develop.”
– Ana Joli-Green

Mary has been working at Standard Chartered for over two years and had been given the opportunity to work in different teams gaining a wealth of experience.
At the employment day last week Mary spoke with passion about the opportunity and support she has been given
“I came to the skills workshop at Standard Chartered with Ben. I couldn’t imagine I’d be standing up here giving this speech. I knew Ana was sent from heaven, she mentored me and I look up to her.”
