In November 2015 the renowned Westminster Abbey generously opened its doors and invited employment clients to an inspiring experience with their ‘World of Work day’.
The Abbey have been supporting the Centre since 2013 and one former client Natalija, has been working in their visitor service team for over two years.
The day started with an introduction to the Abbey by The Very Reverend Dr John Hall followed by a Q & A session with him. Natalija then spoke from her own experience of forging a career at the Abbey.
Clients enjoyed a guided tour and met members from various teams who work at the Abbey who spoke about their own job roles. Finally, clients were matched with members of staff with expertise in their desired area of work. This gave them the opportunity to get some one to one guidance and support from specialists in the field.
The Centre’s employment officer Jeanita Snowden who attended the event was amazed by the effort put into organising something that was targeted at each individual client.
“The ‘World of Work Day’ at Westminster Abbey was simply beyond compare. The warm hospitality, the comprehensive yet exciting agenda and the thoughtful ‘matching’ to ensure each of our clients met someone relevant to their personal career aspirations, all combined to make it a day none of us shall ever forget.”
The feedback from clients was overwhelmingly positive as Jeanita reflects:
“The clients who attended walked home 100 feet tall.”
We can’t thank Westminster Abbey enough for their ongoing support in helping people move closer to work and a better life. They are now hoping to develop opportunities for clients to gain work experience.
