More than 100 volunteers from companies based in London Victoria and beyond are rolling up their sleeves at the Cardinal Hume Centre, as they help prepare the charity for the festive season.
Christmas at the Cardinal Hume Centre – which supports individuals and families to overcome poverty and homelessness – is the charity’s busiest time. Every year, our corporate and community volunteers go the extra mile to ensure that all our clients can enjoy the yuletide celebrations, despite the emotional or economic hardship they may be facing.
Heading to the Centre this December are employees from Entertainment One, Grosvenor, HSBC, Intuit Quickbooks, Land Sec and Westminster Cathedral. Between them, they will undertake a wide range of tasks – from boxing presents, wrapping gifts, creating a grotto and decorating the premises ahead of the Centre’s Christmas celebrations which begin on 19 December.
Over 450 children, young people and others facing disadvantage will receive a carefully selected box of gifts from the Centre this year, while more than 200 local people will benefit from food parcels containing basic goods along with some luxury items. Families will visit our grotto where they’ll meet Santa, while young people living at the Centre will enjoy a festive trip of ice skating and bowling. Young people living at the Centre who are not able to celebrate with family or friends on Christmas Day will also enjoy a home-cooked roast dinner with all the trimmings.
Patricia Marron, Senior Corporate Partnerships Officer at the Cardinal Hume Centre, said: “Everyone working at the Centre loves this time of year. It’s a chance for us to welcome our warm-hearted volunteers to the Centre, and for them to help us make Christmas really special for our clients. This year they’ll be assembling gifts, making decorations, wrapping cards and helping to decorate our newly refurbished premises. It’s always a hive of activity here, and we do our best to keep our workers going with Christmas music and mince pies! Once again, I’d like to say an enormous thanks to all our corporate partners for their kindness and generosity – they really are fantastic – and to wish them all a very happy Christmas.”
