Currying favour with the Cardinal

March 2, 2013

'The first time I met Cardinal Hume was in the late 1980's when he attended our (the former Asian Chaplaincy) Fayre  in the hall outside the cathedral.

'I had a stall of my home-made Goan delicacies (chutneys, pickles etc). The Cardinal  made it a point of stopping at every stall and when he reached mine, he said how pleased he was to see the display.  I then presented him with a copy of my "Goan Cookery Book" which had just been published;  he thanked me and  said he would give it to his Mum. 'We always enjoy hearing about how supporters met the Cardinal.
