Our Egg-cellent holiday programme

April 14, 2022

We’re delighted to have welcomed more than 50 children to our educational and fun Easter holiday club.

Local children aged from 1-14 enjoyed a jam-packed week of music workshops, quizzes, trips and an Easter egg hunt!

The week kicked off with a day of gardening and crafts. They planted wheat in our community garden, designing and creating their own stylish scarecrows to watch over their seedlings. Over the coming months, the children will look after the crop and harvest it in the coming months. There was also jewellery making, a team quiz and lunch with a salad made by two of the children.

On Tuesday pre-school children and their parents enjoyed creative play and learning, games in our garden, a singing session and a delicious lunch.

Wednesday was our big Easter outing with 55 children, plus their parents visiting Legoland in Windsor. Everyone enjoyed visiting the magical forest, getting wet on the water rides and a lots of lego! School holidays bring additional financial pressure to vulnerable families, leaving children with few opportunities to enjoy the same experiences that their peers do. A special thanks to the Parent Association at Westminster Under School generously funded the full cost of our trip to Legoland, including hiring a coach.

Thursday was time for music with the children enjoying aa session with the fantastic musicians from Wigmore Hall. The children tried different instruments and practiced singing. In the afternoon, there was much excitement as the children took part in a scavenger hunt designed by two of the older children. Children followed the clues to find a chocolate egg at the end of the trail.

For so many parents the family centre is a safe place for their children to learn, play and have fun during the school holidays and we are so grateful all our donors who make our holiday programme possible.

Thank you to Intuit Quickbooks and the pupils at St Thomas More School in Wood Green who provided Easter eggs and a special thanks to  year 5 pupil, Yash B, who donated Easter eggs and a treasure trail that he designed himself.
