This Christmas, hundreds of families in Westminster will spend the holidays trapped in overcrowded or temporary accommodation. For many children, this isn’t just a short-term hardship – it can lock them into a lifelong cycle of poverty and homelessness.
Fatima lives with her husband, and their three young children in a cramped one-bedroom flat. There’s no quiet place for homework or calm for their autistic daughter.
Without space and support, it’s hard for children to imagine a better future beyond their present confines. But the Cardinal Hume Centre provides a lifeline.
Will you give a gift of £30 this Christmas to help children like Fatima's dream of a better tomorrow?
In the warm and caring environment of our Family Centre, Fatima’s children make friends, build happy memories, and get the space they need to study and thrive. They go on trips, join activities and gain the confidence to dream as big as other children their age.
But demand for our services is growing because of the housing crisis. And we urgently need your help to keep providing these vital services and to help families like Fatima’s break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
Will you give £30 to help a child facing poverty and homelessness imagine a brighter future this Christmas?
We offer a wide range of services to meet the full needs of individuals and families in Westminster. This includes a family centre, supported accommodation for young people aged 16-25, expert advice in housing, welfare, immigration and employment, and therapeutic support.
We provide play sessions, holiday activities and other child-led programmes to help children – who may not otherwise have the opportunity – to learn, grow, and recover from the trauma of homelessness and poverty.

For children and young people, the consequences of homelessness are particularly profound. Children in these environments may have limited access to toys, books, or safe outdoor spaces. Instability, overcrowding, and insecure housing disrupt education, damage physical and mental health, and hinder emotional development. As a result, children experiencing homelessness are at a greater risk of falling behind developmentally, they may find it harder to regulate their emotions, and they may miss out on vital early learning and social interactions.
