We did it! Big Give raises £60K for local children

Cardinal Hume Centre supporters have helped raise £60,000 in the Champions for Children matched giving campaign!

Thanks to generous matched funding from the Childhood Trust and Centre donors, we had a £30,000 matched giving fund which was unlocked by our supporters, raising a grand total of £60,000.

We aimed to raise £60,000 so that vulnerable families can seek safety and advice to escape homelessness, and generous donors made that possible, donating through our Champions for Children page and getting their donations doubled.

The funds will give local families in poverty a safe place to play, learn, and get practical support to avoid homelessness.  With your help more than 230 children will enjoy the refreshed, expanded programme of family support at the Centre.

This summer, Khaltom shared her story of coming to the Centre, after escaping Kurdistan but struggling to make ends meet and totally isolated in London.

Thanks to people like you, Khaltom and her family have turned their lives around:

“The six of us share a small two-bedroom flat. We make the most out of the limited space we have, but the Centre is a safe place away from the flat, where there is enough space for my children to play, read, and learn about gardening, how things grow and cooking. It’s a place where they can access learning materials, and where the children actually think it’s fun to learn! Beyond the support with food, the homework support has been the most meaningful for us. It has helped the children understand their homework and engage better with their learning at home. They need someone who speaks fluent English and knows the subjects well enough to help them. To be honest, it means a lot for my own well-being too. The staff are so nice and supportive. I honestly don’t know where we’d go if I didn’t have the Centre.”
