Young adults supported accommodation

Supported accommodation for 16-25s

The Cardinal Hume Centre provides 24-hour supported accommodation for up to 39 young people at our site in Westminster.

This includes a 32-bed hostel, two emergency rooms, and five move-on flats for care leavers experiencing homelessness. Whatever the reason you come to live with us, we provide a safe place to stay and support to move towards longer-term housing.

We're available to support our residents day and night, and to connect you with the other services you need in the Centre – whether that be help to find a job or get new skills, learn to cook or get the benefits you're entitled to.

A safe place to stay and build independence

Our supported accommodation provides young people with a safe home and structured help to develop the skills and confidence needed for independent living. Many of the young people we work with are facing housing insecurity, financial difficulty or are leaving care.

Alongside our main accommodation, we have five move-on flats in our neighbouring property, Basil Hume House. These self-contained flats are specifically for care leavers who want to take a step towards long-term, secure housing.

We believe each person matters. We work in a calm and respectful way and take time to understand what you need.

Where we are

Our supported accommodation is in Westminster, central London.

There are excellent bus and tube links nearby. Pimlico, St James’s Park and Victoria Underground stations are all within walking distance.

There are lots of options for shops, cafés and parks, and the river is just a short walk away. It’s easy to travel across London to meet friends, study or work, and there are libraries and community spaces nearby where residents can spend time, study or relax.

Supported accommodation

Our experienced and friendly staff are available to help you 24-hours a day. We’re here to create a stable environment where you can focus on building practical skills and planning your future.

Our supported accommodation includes:

  • A single bedroom in shared accommodation
  • Shared kitchens, bathrooms and living areas
  • Communal space with a pool table, punch bag, Playstation 5, large TV, board games, football table, and a study and computer room
  • 24-hour on-site staff
  • A caseworker who will agree a structured support plan with you

Move-on flats for care leavers

Our move-on flats are next to our hostel, and offer a little more independence. At the same time you still have access to staff support whenever you need it. In this accommodation you have:

  • A studio or one-bed flat
  • Your own kitchen and bathroom

Emergency bed spaces

We also have two self-contained emergency bed spaces. We take same-day referrals from the local authority to ensure people who need it can access safe and supported accommodation quickly. When a young person joins us in to one of these rooms we will create a plan of support to move them to more appropriate and longer-term accommodation.

How we work with you

We tailor our work around your individual needs. This may include:

  • Help with budgeting, cooking and managing bills
  • Planning for education, training or employment
  • Building confidence and daily routines
  • Accessing health and wellbeing services including our art therapist
  • Connecting you with housing, benefits, immigration, or learning services within the Centre

Our team works with other services in the building, like our life skills coordinator and employment and learning team, so you can access the help you need in one place.

We support you to build practical skills, strengthen confidence and create clear plans for the future. When you are ready, we help you prepare to move into more independent accommodation.

Living at the Cardinal Hume Centre in supported accommodation is a step towards stable housing and greater independence. We work with each person to help them move on to secure, long-term housing when they are ready.

I used to love books but through the period of being homeless, I just couldn't read. One of the first things they did when I started living here was register me with a library. And I suddenly started reading, like, ten books a week.
