On 17 June 2026, staff, volunteers, supporters and friends of the Cardinal Hume Centre gathered at Sacred Heart Church in Pimlico for the Centre's annual anniversary Mass, held in memory of our founder, Cardinal George Basil Hume.

The Mass is a special moment in the Centre's year. It allows us to pause, remember Cardinal Hume's life and reflect on the values that continue to guide our work today. More than 25 years after his death, his vision of a society in which every person is treated with dignity, compassion and respect remains at the heart of everything we do.

Together, we prayed in thanksgiving for Cardinal Hume's life and leadership, and remembered his conviction that 'each person matters; no human life is redundant'. Those words continue to resonate throughout the Centre, shaping our work with young people, families and individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.

The anniversary Mass also provides a welcome opportunity to come together as a community – reconnecting with colleagues, volunteers, trustees, supporters and long-standing friends of the Centre. In remembering Cardinal Hume, we are reminded not only of the remarkable legacy he left behind, but also of the responsibility we share in carrying that legacy forward through our daily work and service.

As we marked the anniversary of his death, we gave thanks for his enduring influence and renewed our commitment to the values and mission that inspired the founding of the Cardinal Hume Centre and continue to guide it today.
